Project Description

Mesquite Bowl

Living in the Great Smokies, I rarely encounter woods from the West and Southwest. When I visited Las Cruces, New Mexico, in 2014, Rich Spellenberg, a fine woodturner (and botanist), gave me a small blank of mesquite, along with a hunk of redwood from California. Since mesquite has merely been something I added to my charcoal for grilling, I had to ponder what to do with it. Here’s the little nut bowl I turned with this nice piece of wood. It’s 3 1/2″ in diameter.
