Project Description

Magazine Rack

I made this magazine rack in wood shop in 1954 when I was only 13 or 14 years old. Made of mahogany, it utilized my first use of dados with a router that must have sounded like a freight train. After I left for college, it resided in my parents’ home until the 1990s, when it returned to me. I took it apart by wetting the hide glue I had used and re-glued and re-finished it for, hopefully, transmission to another generation. It’s sitting on a rug that belonged to my grandparents and that I played on as a boy. All of this is a tribute to the way wooden furnishings carry many memories far beyond their immediate utility.
