Harmony and Balance

This piece was created following our drive to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears in 2003. The Spiral Mask by Gillam Stewart that figures in the mosaic was purchased in Tahlequa, Oklahoma. The turquoise bead border is made from beads from my mother—real turquoise nuggets that are becoming increasingly rare. Behind the mask is a wing recalling the sacred imagery of the Cherokee. 12”X18” 2006
